Rittergut Birkhof occupies a genuinely distinctive setting — a historic Rittergut, or knight's estate, in the flat, open countryside between Düsseldorf and Mönchengladbach. The course wraps around and through the grounds of this old manor property, giving play a sense of history and landed character that's rare on the modern German golf circuit. The Lower Rhine landscape here is classically gentle — wide skies, agricultural land, the occasional tree line breaking the horizon — which means the design works with strategic bunkering, water features, and mature plantings rather than dramatic elevation to create its challenges.
Korschenbroich sits in one of Germany's most densely populated metropolitan corridors, yet the Rittergut property preserves a genuine sense of rural escape. The club draws members from across the greater Düsseldorf and Mönchengladbach area, functioning as a proper private members' club with the kind of well-maintained, traditional atmosphere that the Rittergut setting naturally encourages.
For visiting golfers, the appeal is partly the course itself and partly the atmosphere — playing on grounds with this kind of agricultural and aristocratic heritage gives a round here a texture that a purpose-built parkland layout simply cannot replicate.
