Are Golfclub sits at the foot of the Swedish mountain resort that hosts the Alpine Ski World Cup, and its layout reflects that dramatic Nordic setting — fairways moving through birch and pine forest with the Åre massif rising behind you. The course occupies a genuinely scenic stretch of the Åre valley in Jämtland, one of Sweden's great outdoor destinations, where the mountain air and northern light give a round a quality that's hard to replicate at lower latitudes.
Golf this far north operates on its own calendar. The season is short but intense, compressed into the months when the valley sheds its snow and the days stretch toward the midnight sun of midsummer. Playing here in June or July means lingering evening rounds in extraordinary light — a genuinely rare experience even by Scandinavian standards.
The club draws a broad mix of visitors alongside its local membership, largely because Åre itself is one of Sweden's best-known resort towns, busy with skiers in winter and hikers and cyclists in summer. Golf fits naturally into that active, outdoors-first culture.
