Baguio Country Club Golf Course

Few golf clubs in the Philippines carry the historical weight of Baguio Country Club. Founded in the early American colonial era — the club dates to around 1905, making it one of the oldest golf clubs in Southeast Asia — it was established by American administrators who built Baguio as a mountain retreat and summer capital. The course sits at roughly 1,500 meters above sea level in the Cordillera highlands, giving it a climate utterly unlike anything else in the Philippine golf landscape: cool, frequently misty, and genuinely brisk by tropical standards.

Playing here feels like stepping into another era. The layout winds through pine-forested terrain on ground shaped more by the mountain than by any architect's ambition, and the cool thin air means shots carry differently than they would at sea level. The fairways move up and down with the natural topography of the Luzon highlands, and the surrounding pines lend an atmosphere closer to a Scottish hillside than anything most Filipino golfers encounter week to week.

Membership is private and closely held, making a round here a genuine privilege. Baguio itself — the "City of Pines," a university town and longtime holiday destination for Manila's heat-weary residents — adds to the sense of occasion. A game at BCC is as much about the place as the golf.
