Le Fonti takes its name from the thermal springs that have defined Castel San Pietro Terme for centuries — a small Emilian spa town tucked into the first folds of the Apennines, about 25 kilometers southeast of Bologna. The course sits in terrain that already rewards the eye: gentle wooded hills rolling down toward the Po Valley, with the kind of soft, green-gold light that characterizes this corner of Emilia-Romagna in the shoulder seasons. It is a setting that feels distinctly Italian in the best sense — unhurried, rooted in landscape, quietly civilized.
The layout works with the natural contours of the hillside rather than against them, meaning players encounter genuine elevation change and some holes that demand real shot-shaping rather than just length. Tree-lined corridors, tighter than they first appear, keep precision at a premium throughout the round.
For visiting golfers, Le Fonti pairs naturally with everything the Bologna area offers — one of Italy's great food cities is barely half an hour away, and the course reflects that same regional sensibility: unpretentious, well-considered, and better than it has any obligation to advertise.
