Ancala Country Club occupies a stretch of the McDowell Mountain foothills on Scottsdale's northeastern edge, where the Sonoran Desert asserts itself in full — saguaro-studded terrain, rugged granite ridgelines, and the kind of elevation changes that turn a straightforward-looking hole into something far more demanding. The club has been a fixture of Scottsdale's private golf community since the early 1990s, offering members a course that feels genuinely rooted in its desert surroundings rather than imposed upon them.
The design philosophy leans into natural desert contours, with waste areas and native vegetation framing fairways tightly enough that accuracy off the tee matters considerably more than raw distance. Par 72 leaves room for both par 5 scoring opportunities and demanding two-shot holes where the desert is never far from play.
Scottsdale's private club scene is among the most competitive in the American Southwest, and Ancala holds its own as a neighborhood club with real character — less about prestige signaling than about a membership that simply enjoys playing serious desert golf close to home.
