Linkou District sits on a broad plateau northwest of Taipei, where the land rises sharply from the coastal plain and the air carries a humidity that shapes every round. The area is best known internationally as an athletic hub — it hosted the 2017 World University Games — and the elevated terrain gives it a character distinctly different from the lowland sprawl of the city below. Golf has long had a foothold here, and the plateau's rolling topography lends itself naturally to course design.
The South & East Course draws its 18 holes from 2 of what is clearly a larger multi-course facility, a format common among Taiwan's more established private and semi-private clubs. Layouts of this type typically reward course management over raw power, with tree-lined corridors and undulating fairways demanding precision from tee to green.
Taiwan's golf culture punches well above its geographic weight, producing tour professionals and sustaining a passionate local following. A round at Linkou puts you squarely in that tradition, on a plateau where the skyline of greater Taipei occasionally peeks through the treeline.
