Six Mile sits in the upstate corner of South Carolina — not Georgia, despite what a data entry somewhere decided — where the Blue Ridge foothills roll down toward Lake Keowee and the Jocassee Gorges. This is Cherokee country, a landscape of hardwood ridges, cool creek hollows, and granite outcroppings that gives the region a character entirely distinct from the coastal lowcountry courses most visitors associate with South Carolina golf.
Keowee Springs takes its name from the lake and the old Cherokee town that once stood nearby before the reservoir flooded the valley in the early 1970s. A par-72 layout in this terrain means negotiating elevation changes and tree-lined corridors that the piedmont flatlands simply don't offer — the hills demand course management as much as raw distance, and errant shots tend to find trouble that a flat course would forgive.
The surrounding Oconee County area draws outdoor enthusiasts to its waterfalls, state parks, and lake access, and a round here fits naturally into that unhurried, scenery-first sensibility. This is everyday golf in a genuinely beautiful corner of the Carolinas.
