Puerto Belgrano occupies a singular position in Argentine golf — a course built within one of the country's most important naval bases, the Comandante Espora Naval Air Station complex on the southern shore of Bahía Blanca bay. Access has traditionally been restricted to military personnel and their guests, giving this club a quiet insularity that sets it apart from the broader Buenos Aires province golf scene.
The surrounding landscape is classic Patagonian fringe: open, windswept pampas running down to the Bahía Blanca estuary, where the prevailing southerly winds off the Atlantic can turn a straightforward round into something considerably more demanding. Vegetation is sparse and scrubby, the sky enormous, and the light has the particular clarity of coastal southern Argentina.
