Northville sits in the western reaches of Metro Detroit, where Oakland and Wayne counties meet amid the kind of rolling, tree-lined terrain that has quietly made southeast Michigan one of the Midwest's more underrated golf regions. The area's mix of glacially carved topography — gentle ridges, natural water features, and mature hardwood stands — gives courses here a character that distinguishes them from the flatter stretches of the state farther north or west.
Salem Hills fits the profile of a traditional Michigan parkland layout, the sort of course where the land itself does much of the design work. Par 72 setups in this part of the state tend to reward patience and course management over raw power, as the tree corridors that define so many fairways in the region demand accuracy off the tee and thoughtful shot-shaping through the seasons.
Northville's golf scene benefits from proximity to a large metropolitan population without the congestion of the city proper, giving the area a pleasant semi-rural feel. Autumn play here, when the hardwoods turn, is a particular draw that no scorecard statistic can fully capture.
