Keene Country Club is one of the older private clubs in the Monadnock Region of southwestern New Hampshire, a part of the state defined by rolling hills, hardwood forests, and the granite bulk of Mount Monadnock rising to the south. The club has served the Keene community for well over a century, functioning as both a golf destination and a social anchor for a small city that punches well above its weight in civic character and New England pride.
The course plays through terrain that is quintessentially Granite State — uneven lies, elevation changes, and mature trees that demand shotmaking rather than pure power. A par 72 layout in this landscape tends to reward course management and local knowledge, as the fall foliage season can make conditions spectacular but the ground firm and fast.
As a member-owned private club, Keene Country Club operates with the understated traditions common to New England golf: no pretense, a genuine sense of community, and a course that reveals itself slowly over many rounds rather than all at once.
