Few resort courses in South Florida carry the pedigree of The Breakers, the legendary Palm Beach hotel that has anchored the Gold Coast's social and recreational life since the 1890s. The Rees Jones Course — named for the architect who shaped or reshaped some of the most celebrated layouts in American golf — sits a few miles inland from the oceanfront grand dame herself, offering hotel guests and members a serious test that goes well beyond typical resort fare. Jones earned his "Open Doctor" reputation by toughening major championship venues, and his design sensibility here favors strategic bunkering and firm, contoured greens over purely decorative landscaping.
West Palm Beach sits across the Intracoastal from the old-money enclave of Palm Beach proper, and the golf culture in this corridor is dense — some of the wealthiest private clubs in the country are clustered nearby. That context gives The Breakers course an interesting identity: a resort track competing in rarefied company.
The flat South Florida terrain means drama comes from design rather than topography — water, wind off the Atlantic, and Jones's routing do the heavy lifting.
