Colorado City sits along the I-25 corridor in the Huerfano/Pueblo county borderlands, where the eastern flank of the Wet Mountains meets the broad high plains. At roughly 5,000 feet of elevation, the air is thin and the ball flies farther than it would at sea level — a fact that regularly surprises first-time visitors who expect a punishing layout and find their distances stretched pleasantly outward. The surrounding landscape is austere and dramatic: wide sky, scrub terrain, and the Front Range framing the western horizon.
Hollydot is a public, everyday course built for accessibility rather than exclusivity — the kind of facility that anchors local golf in a small community and sees regulars walking it on weekday mornings as much as weekend visitors rolling through on road trips down I-25. Southern Colorado's golf scene is genuinely underappreciated, and courses in this corridor tend to offer solid, no-pretense value.
The par-71 configuration suggests at least a handful of par-4s converted or designed as shorter holes, which often gives a layout some personality and pace variation beyond a conventional par-72 setup. Without overcomplicating things, Hollydot presents itself as a place to play honest, enjoyable golf against a backdrop that, on a clear day, is hard to beat anywhere in the state.
