One of the older private clubs in Vermont, Burlington Country Club has been a cornerstone of the state's golf community for well over a century. The club sits in the greater Burlington area, New England's largest city on Lake Champlain, where the Adirondacks rise across the water to the west and the Green Mountains define the eastern horizon. That setting gives the course a distinctive seasonal character — brilliant and breezy in summer, spectacular during the brief but vivid Vermont fall, and firmly closed against long northern winters.
The layout plays to a par 71, which typically signals a design built around strategy and variety rather than raw length. Vermont's terrain rarely allows for flat, parkland-style architecture, and courses in the Burlington area tend to work with elevation change, mature hardwoods, and the kind of firm, fast conditions that a short growing season and cool nights naturally produce.
As a private members' club, Burlington Country Club carries the rhythms of a close-knit community — the same faces, the same rivalries, the local knowledge that takes seasons to accumulate.
