Few private clubs in America carry the mystique of Medalist Golf Club. Designed by Greg Norman and Pete Dye and opened in 1995, it sits in Hobe Sound on Florida's Treasure Coast — a stretch of coastline between Palm Beach and the Bahamas-facing inlets that feels genuinely removed from the state's more crowded golf corridors. The Norman-Dye collaboration produced something deliberately demanding: a course known for its thick rough, forced carries, and greens that punish imprecision, which is precisely why it became a training ground for elite competitive golfers rather than a resort-style retreat.
That reputation is no accident. Medalist has long been Tiger Woods's home course, and the membership rolls over the years have read like a PGA Tour roster — Dustin Johnson, Nick Price, and numerous other world-ranked players have called it a regular haunt. That culture of serious, high-level practice permeates the place in a way that is immediately felt.
Hobe Sound itself is a quieter, deliberately low-key community that has resisted the overdevelopment visible elsewhere along the Florida coast, giving Medalist a sense of seclusion that its famous members have always valued. For anyone fortunate enough to get on, it plays as seriously as its reputation suggests.
