Few public courses in the Philadelphia suburbs carry as much history as Jeffersonville Golf Club. The layout dates to the early 20th century and was designed by A.W. Tillinghast, the same architect behind Winged Foot, Baltusrol, and Philadelphia Cricket Club — which makes it one of the more quietly significant public-access tracks in the entire region. Like most Tillinghast designs, the routing rewards thoughtful play over raw power, with green complexes and angles that punish careless approaches even when the yardage doesn't look threatening on paper.
Situated in Montgomery County just northwest of Philadelphia, the course occupies land shaped by the gentle, rolling Pennsylvanian piedmont. The surrounding area has deep colonial-era roots, and the course itself feels like a working piece of that older, unhurried landscape. Mature trees line many holes, and the overall character leans traditional — a reminder of how public golf in the Northeast once looked before the era of stadium mounding and manicured excess.
The par-70 layout is shorter than a full-length championship test, but length is rarely the point with a Tillinghast design. Position off the tee and precision into greens are what this course asks for, and regular players tend to learn its subtleties over years rather than a single round.
