Golfclub Isarwinkel sits in the foothills of the Bavarian Alps, in the gentle rolling countryside south of Munich near the small community of Greiling. This is the Isarwinkel region — named for the great curve the Isar River makes as it descends from the mountains — a landscape of meadows, woodland, and distant limestone peaks that gives the course a setting most urban golfers only dream about. The air here carries a distinctly alpine quality, and on clear days the panorama toward the Karwendel and Benediktenwand ranges is as much a part of the experience as the golf itself.
The club is a well-regarded private members' association in the tradition of the German Golfverein, serving a community that takes its golf seriously without the pretension of a major resort operation. The course works with the natural contours of the pre-alpine terrain, and rounds here tend to reward precise shot-making over raw power.
For visitors from Munich — roughly an hour's drive north — Isarwinkel represents a genuine escape into quieter, more elemental Bavarian golf, where the mountains are never far from view and the pace of the game feels refreshingly unhurried.
