Few Midlands clubs carry quite the sense of settled permanence that Glen Gorse does. Established in the early 1930s and occupying a stretch of heathland and woodland on the southeastern fringe of Leicester, the club has developed quietly over the decades into one of the more respected private members' courses in Leicestershire — well regarded locally without chasing national headlines.
The course itself plays through mature tree-lined fairways with gorse a recurring and punishing presence, particularly when the rough is allowed to thicken in summer. That combination of heathland character and wooded corridors gives rounds here a distinctly English feel: not overly long, but rarely straightforward, with wayward shots collecting penalties that pure length cannot compensate for. A par of 72 across 18 holes suits the layout's demand for patience and course management over brute force.
