Mexicali sits just across the border from Calexico, California, in one of the most climatically extreme corners of North America. The city occupies the eastern Sonoran Desert, where summer temperatures routinely push past 110°F and the surrounding landscape is defined by the vast, irrigated patchwork of the Mexicali Valley — one of Mexico's most productive agricultural regions carved from what was once pure desert. Golf here means dry air, firm turf, and a sky that seems wider than anywhere else.
As the largest city in Baja California state, Mexicali has a distinct character that sets it apart from the tourism-oriented corridor to the west. This is a working industrial and agricultural city, and its golf reflects that — a course serving a local community rather than a resort circuit, with the unpretentious appeal of a club that exists for people who actually live here and play regularly through every season.
For visiting golfers crossing from the Imperial Valley side, a round in Mexicali offers something genuinely different: golf embedded in a border city with its own rhythms, a flat desert landscape, and the particular pleasure of playing somewhere most out-of-towners simply never think to go.
