Kelab Golf Putra sits in Perlis, Malaysia's smallest and northernmost state, a compact sliver of land bordered by Thailand to the north and Kedah to the south. Kangar, the state capital, is a quiet, unhurried town far removed from the resort golf circuits of Langkawi or the tournament infrastructure of the Klang Valley — which gives this club a genuinely local character, serving the community of golfers who call this corner of the peninsula home.
Perlis is sugarcane and paddy country, flat and agricultural, and courses in this region tend to reflect that open, low-lying terrain — wide skies, warm humidity year-round, and the kind of lush tropical turf that recovers quickly but demands respect with irons when conditions firm up. The northern Malaysian climate means afternoon thunderstorms are a regular feature, particularly between April and October, so morning tee times are almost always the smarter choice.
As a regional club in one of Malaysia's quieter states, Kelab Golf Putra functions primarily as a members' facility — the sort of course where the pace is relaxed, the regulars know each other's games, and visitors are welcomed into a genuinely grassroots golf culture.
