Few golf courses anywhere can claim a setting quite like this one. Stowe Golf Club sits within the grounds of Stowe School, one of England's most prestigious independent schools, and the landscape that surrounds it is nothing short of extraordinary — a UNESCO-designated garden designed in the 18th century by the likes of Capability Brown and William Kent, featuring temples, monuments, lakes, and sweeping vistas that have been drawing visitors for 300 years. Walking these fairways feels less like a round of golf and more like moving through a living history of English landscape design.
The course itself threads through the outer reaches of the Stowe estate in Buckinghamshire, and while the classical monuments and formal gardens are largely elsewhere on the grounds, the sense of space and grandeur permeates throughout. The parkland turf tends to play firm and true, and the par 70 layout rewards accuracy over power — this is not a course that simply surrenders to length.
