Wildernesse occupies a remarkable piece of Kent countryside on the Greensand Ridge just outside Sevenoaks, where the land rolls and tumbles in ways that make flat lies something of a luxury. The club traces its roots to the late 19th century and takes its name from the historic Wildernesse estate, the grand house and parkland that long defined this corner of northwest Kent. That heritage shows in the mature woodland — oak, beech, and birch — that lines and divides the holes, giving the course a closed-in, private feel even on busy days.
Sevenoaks sits at the northern edge of the High Weald, close enough to London to draw serious club golfers but firmly rooted in the Kentish landscape. The terrain here rewards accurate ball-striking over raw power; the elevation changes demand careful club selection, and wayward drives into the trees tend to be punished in full.
Wildernesse is a members' club with a traditional feel — the kind of place where course knowledge genuinely matters and a first-time visitor is likely to hand in a card a few shots higher than expected.
