Few golf courses in Europe occupy a more dramatically exposed position than Budersand, which sits at the southern tip of Sylt — Germany's northernmost and most fashionable island, reachable only by car-train across the Hindenburgdamm causeway or by ferry. The course opened in 2010 and was designed by Bernhard Langer, who shaped the links-style layout to work with the island's dune landscape rather than against it. It quickly earned a reputation as one of the finest modern courses in Germany, regularly appearing at the top of German and European course rankings.

Hörnum itself is a small, windswept community at Sylt's narrowest point, flanked by the North Sea to the west and the Wadden Sea — a UNESCO World Heritage tidal flat — to the east. The prevailing Atlantic winds off the North Sea are a constant presence and the course's defining challenge; calm days are the exception, not the rule.

Budersand is attached to the Hotel Budersand, making it a genuine destination resort, and it draws a well-heeled clientele from across Germany and beyond. The combination of dunes, sea views, and Langer's thoughtful routing produces a round that feels genuinely rooted in a rare and protected landscape.
