Few private clubs in the Tampa Bay area carry the reputation that Old Memorial has built since opening in 1993. Designed by Ron Garl, a Florida-based architect known for crafting courses that respect the natural lay of the land, Old Memorial has consistently ranked among the top private clubs in Florida — a state with no shortage of serious competition. Garl routed the layout through a landscape of hardwood hammocks, wetlands, and mature tree lines in the New Tampa corridor, giving it a quieter, more wooded character than the open, water-heavy designs that dominate much of the region.
The course plays as a genuine test rather than a trophy layout, with strategic bunkering and demanding approaches that reward patience and course management over raw power. Its conditioning and member experience have long kept it in conversations about the best private clubs the Sunshine State has to offer.
New Tampa itself sits at the northeastern edge of the city, removed from the coastal resort buzz — Old Memorial is the kind of serious, members-first club that doesn't need the fanfare.
