Argyle Country Club carries one of the longer institutional memories in the Maryland suburbs, having served Silver Spring's golf community since the mid-20th century as a private retreat from the dense residential and commercial landscape that defines this corner of Montgomery County. The club sits in a part of greater Washington where available land has always been at a premium, making its grounds something of a preserved pocket of open space just inside the Beltway.
Montgomery County has a surprisingly rich private club tradition — Burning Tree, Congressional, and Alhambra all operate within a short drive — and Argyle occupies its own quieter corner of that world, catering to a membership that values proximity to the capital without the prestige price tag of the better-known names to its north and west. The par-71 layout signals a course shaped in part by its terrain, likely trading one of the more conventional par-5s or par-3s for something the land dictated rather than a designer's preference for symmetry.
For members, the draw is practical as much as scenic: a walkable, familiar track close to home, the kind of club where the regulars know each other's games and the tee sheet fills through relationships rather than tee-time apps.
