Cape Fear National Golf Club sits in Leland, just across the Cape Fear River from Wilmington, in a part of coastal North Carolina that has seen remarkable growth as a golf destination over the past two decades. The course occupies a setting shaped by the region's characteristic lowcountry terrain — longleaf pines, wetlands, and the kind of expansive, light-filled Carolina sky that makes an afternoon round feel genuinely unhurried.
Designed by Tim Cate and opened in 2009 as part of the Brunswick Forest master-planned community, Cape Fear National quickly earned a reputation as one of the stronger public-access layouts in the Wilmington market. Cate routed the course through a mix of open and wooded corridors, with water coming into play on a number of holes and the native vegetation providing both visual definition and genuine strategic consequence for errant shots.
The surrounding Leland and Wilmington area offers easy access to the Atlantic coast, a vibrant regional food and culture scene, and a cluster of quality public and semi-private courses that make it a practical base for a dedicated golf trip without the resort price tag.
