Few counties in Wales carry quite the same sense of raw, unhurried landscape as Powys — the largest and most sparsely populated county in the country, where the Brecon Beacons rise to the south and the rolling uplands of mid-Wales stretch in every direction. Cradoc sits just north of Brecon town, and the views from its hillside fairways across the Usk Valley and toward the Beacons are among the more striking backdrops you'll find on a Welsh parkland course. The setting does a lot of the talking.
As a members' club serving a relatively rural community, Cradoc has the character of a course that golfers genuinely use rather than merely visit — well-maintained, unpretentious, and rooted in its place. A par of 71 hints at a layout that rewards accuracy and course management over raw power, and the undulating terrain ensures the land itself is always a factor.
For anyone touring the golf of South or Mid Wales, Brecon is an easy town to underestimate. Cradoc offers a genuine local experience — the kind of round that sticks with you precisely because it wasn't trying to impress.
