Kirkbymoorside Golf Club sits on the edge of the North York Moors, one of England's most dramatic upland landscapes, where the market town of Kirkbymoorside marks the boundary between the Vale of Pickering's flat farmland and the rising heather moorland above. It's a part of Yorkshire that feels genuinely unhurried — ancient field boundaries, dry-stone walls, and wide skies define the countryside here, and all of that character tends to find its way onto the golf courses that occupy it.

As a par 69, the course plays shorter than a championship layout, which shapes the experience considerably. Par 69s reward precision and course management over raw power — the margin for error on the shorter par 4s is rarely as generous as it looks, and the holes that do stretch out tend to carry more weight in the final reckoning.

Yorkshire's moorland fringe produces firm, fast-running turf when conditions are dry, and a completely different examination when the wind comes off the moors. Local knowledge matters here, as it does at most clubs where the membership has been reading the same slopes for generations.
