Few private courses in America carry the mystique of Rich Harvest Farms. Carved from the flat, fertile farmland of Kane County about 50 miles west of Chicago, this is Jerry Rich's personal labor of love — a course he built on his family's working farm and has continuously refined over decades into one of the most celebrated private layouts in the Midwest. Golf Digest has ranked it among the top courses in Illinois, and its reputation stretches well beyond the state's borders.
The course has punched well above its rural zip code on the national stage, hosting the 2009 Solheim Cup — one of women's golf's premier international team events — and drawing serious attention to what a private passion project in the Illinois prairie can become. The design makes imaginative use of land that, in less creative hands, might have yielded nothing memorable.
Big Rock itself is little more than a crossroads community, which only adds to the allure. Getting here requires intention, and that sense of arrival — pulling off farm roads to find something genuinely world-class — is part of what makes Rich Harvest Farms so singular.
