Pembroke Golf Club sits in the Ottawa Valley, a region where the Canadian Shield gives way to the broad floodplain of the Ottawa River. The town of Pembroke has long served as a gateway to Algonquin country, and the surrounding landscape — granite outcroppings, mixed boreal forest, and the wide sweep of the river — shapes the character of golf up here in a way that flatter, more manicured corners of Ontario simply cannot replicate.
As a private and community-rooted club in a smaller city, Pembroke likely operates with the unpretentious camaraderie that defines regional golf across the Valley — the kind of place where members have played the same Saturday draw for decades and know every bounce on every fairway. That institutional knowledge matters on a course where the terrain will have its own personality.
The Ottawa Valley season runs roughly May through October, compressed by the northern climate, which tends to make members protective of their course and enthusiastic about the time they have on it.
