Ta Khmau sits just south of Phnom Penh, separated from the capital by little more than the Bassac River, and serves as the administrative seat of Kandal Province — one of Cambodia's most densely populated and politically significant regions. It is the kind of place where power and proximity to the capital intersect, and that context is entirely appropriate here.
This course is the private retreat of Hun Sen, Cambodia's long-dominant political figure who served as Prime Minister for nearly 4 decades before handing power to his son in 2023. Details about the layout, its architect, and its conditioning are not publicly documented in any meaningful way — access is, by all accounts, reserved for the inner circle of one of Southeast Asia's most tightly controlled governments. It is less a golf club in the conventional sense and more an extension of a heavily secured personal compound.
For context, golf in Cambodia remains a sport of the elite, with most courses concentrated in and around Phnom Penh. The broader Cambodian golf scene is still developing, but this particular facility exists in a category entirely its own.
