Musket Ridge sits in the Middletown Valley of western Maryland, where the Blue Ridge Mountains frame virtually every shot on the property. The course opened in 2001 and was designed by Lindsay Ervin, whose work tends to favor dramatic elevation changes and natural terrain rather than manufactured drama — and the land here gave him plenty to work with. Carved through the foothills with mountain views that extend for miles, the routing makes honest use of the ridgeline topography, so golfers are regularly navigating uphill approaches, sidehill lies, and descending fairways that can turn a straightforward hole into a genuine puzzle.
Myersville itself is a small community at the edge of Frederick County, close enough to the Washington-Baltimore corridor to draw a substantial weekend crowd from two major metro areas. That access has made Musket Ridge a popular escape for city golfers looking for something with more character than the flatter parkland layouts closer to home.
The course plays as a full-length, public-access challenge in a setting that rewards those who pay attention to the terrain. Wind off the mountain can shift conditions dramatically hole to hole, and first-timers routinely underestimate how much the elevation movement affects club selection throughout the round.
