Tom Fazio designed Hunter's Green Country Club in 1991, shaping the layout through the master-planned Hunter's Green community in New Tampa — a northeastern corridor of the city that was largely undeveloped scrubland when the project broke ground. Fazio worked the course through wetlands, pine flatwoods, and water features that are as much strategic hazards as they are defining elements of the visual experience. The result earned the club consistent recognition as one of the stronger private layouts in the Tampa Bay area.
The course plays as a genuine members' challenge, with water coming into play on a majority of holes and the flat Florida terrain demanding that Fazio create interest through shaping, bunkering, and routing rather than elevation. That design discipline is a Fazio signature, and it shows — the course rewards course management and precise iron play over raw distance.
Tampa sits within one of Florida's most active golf markets, with a long season, subtropical humidity, and Bermuda turf that rewards the bump-and-run less than the aerial game. Hunter's Green draws a loyal membership from the surrounding residential community, giving it the feel of a genuine neighborhood club with a layout that punches above that designation.
