El Cielo sits in Tlajomulco de Zúñiga, a municipality on the southern fringe of the Guadalajara metropolitan area, where the highlands of Jalisco open into broad, semi-arid valleys at roughly 1,500 meters above sea level. That elevation keeps temperatures moderate year-round — a genuine advantage in central Mexico — and the surrounding landscape of agave, mesquite, and volcanic terrain gives the course a setting distinctly different from the beach resorts that put Mexican golf on international maps.
As a private members' club, El Cielo serves the affluent communities that have expanded rapidly through this corridor south of Guadalajara, where master-planned residential developments have made the area one of the fastest-growing suburban zones in western Mexico. The name itself — "the sky" — hints at the open, elevated character of the land.
Without touring the course firsthand or knowing its architect, what's clear is that private clubs in this part of Jalisco tend to reward membership with well-maintained conditions and a genuine social fabric, set against a high-altitude interior landscape that gives the game here its own unhurried, distinctive character.
