Vittsjö sits in the hilly, lake-dotted interior of northern Skåne — a corner of Sweden's southernmost province that feels a world away from the flat agricultural plains most visitors associate with the region. The town takes its name from Vittsjön, one of the area's characteristic glacial lakes, and the surrounding landscape of mixed forest, rolling terrain, and open water gives Wittsjö Golfklubb a genuine natural setting that course architects working in flatter parts of Skåne can only envy.
Wittsjö is a member-owned club typical of the strong community golf culture that took root across provincial Sweden during the expansion of the 1980s and 1990s. Courses of this type tend to reward local knowledge — tree-lined corridors, elevation changes, and ground that plays differently after the wet Nordic shoulder seasons than it does in high summer. Skåne's relatively mild climate by Swedish standards means a longer playable season than most of the country enjoys.
For visiting golfers, the appeal here is unhurried golf in honest countryside, far from the polished resort circuits of coastal Skåne. Northern Skåne remains quietly underrated as a golf destination, and clubs like Wittsjö carry much of the region's everyday golfing life.
