La Wantzenau is a quiet village on the Rhine plain just north of Strasbourg, where the river's old meanders have left behind a landscape of oxbow lakes, alluvial forest, and flat, fertile ground. Golf de La Wantzenau sits comfortably in this setting, a layout that makes the most of the mature trees and water features that the Alsatian Rhine corridor naturally provides. The forest backdrop and the slow, broad character of the surrounding wetlands give the course a calm, slightly secluded atmosphere that stands in contrast to the city just a few kilometers to the south.
The course is one of the more established clubs in the Strasbourg metropolitan area and serves a loyal membership while remaining accessible to visiting golfers. The tree-lined fairways demand accuracy off the tee, and the water hazards — very much a product of the local terrain — keep mid-handicappers honest throughout the round.
Strasbourg itself is one of Europe's more compelling golf destinations in miniature, with a cluster of worthwhile courses within easy reach. La Wantzenau makes a natural pairing with a stay in the city, particularly for those who want to combine competitive Alsatian cuisine and a UNESCO-listed old town with a round of unhurried, characterful parkland golf.
