Few courses in Finland have earned the kind of enduring respect that Vihti Golf commands. Founded in 1986 and routed through the birch and pine forests of Uusimaa, roughly 50 kilometers northwest of Helsinki, it has grown into one of the country's most celebrated clubs — consistently ranking among Finland's top courses and serving for years as home to events on the Nordic and Finnish professional circuits. The 27-hole facility, designed with the rolling glacial terrain in mind, rewards players who can shape shots through the trees and manage elevation changes that many visitors don't anticipate.
The Ojakkala countryside is quintessential southern Finnish landscape: granite outcroppings, dense boreal forest, and a light that shifts dramatically with the seasons. The short Nordic golf season — roughly May through October — concentrates serious play into intense summer months when twilight barely exists, and rounds under the near-midnight sun are genuinely memorable.
For visiting golfers coming out of Helsinki, Vihti represents the kind of serious, well-maintained club that treats the game with proper respect. It's not a resort layout built for casual play — it demands real course management and tends to linger in the memory long after the card is signed.
