Nanoose Bay sits on the quieter, less-touristed stretch of Vancouver Island's east coast, roughly halfway between Nanaimo and Parksville — a part of the island where the pace slows and the landscape opens into arbutus-lined shores and views across the Strait of Georgia toward the mainland mountains. It's a region that rewards those willing to explore beyond Victoria's well-trodden fairways, and Fairwinds Golf Club is a genuine reason to make the detour.
The course plays through the residential Fairwinds community, a format common on Vancouver Island where golf and neighborhood coexist — mature trees framing fairways, elevation changes keeping things visually interesting, and that particular Pacific Northwest atmosphere where the air carries salt and cedar in roughly equal measure. A par 71 layout typically signals some shorter, more strategic holes in the mix, asking for placement off the tee rather than raw distance.
The climate here is among the mildest in Canada, with the island's rain shadow effect keeping Nanoose Bay comparatively dry and the season genuinely long. Golfers who find their way to Fairwinds are usually Vancouver Islanders in the know, or visitors content to trade the busy resort corridors for something a little more local in character.
