Few golf clubs in Southern California carry the historical weight of Annandale. Founded in 1906, it is one of the oldest private clubs in the Los Angeles area, predating the region's explosive growth and surviving intact as a genuine relic of early American golf culture. The course was designed by Norman Macbeth, a Scottish-born architect who shaped several of California's early layouts, and the grounds have retained much of that original character — tight, tree-lined fairways that demand placement over power, a style more rooted in the classic parkland tradition than in the wide-open target golf that defines many modern California courses.
Situated in the foothills above Pasadena, the club occupies terrain that rolls and drops through mature sycamores and oaks, giving it a sense of seclusion that feels remarkable given its proximity to central Los Angeles. The San Gabriel Mountains form a backdrop that reminds you exactly where you are.
At par 70, Annandale is not a bomber's course. It rewards control, course management, and the kind of careful shot-making that the game's earliest architects assumed golfers would bring. This is a members' club with genuine pedigree — unhurried, private, and serious about the game.
