Verrado is one of the more ambitious master-planned communities to emerge from the Sonoran Desert west of Phoenix, and its golf course reflects that ambition. The Founder's Course was designed by John Fought, a former U.S. Amateur champion turned architect who brought a studied, strategic sensibility to what could easily have been a generic desert-resort layout. The result is a course that works with the natural drama of the White Tank Mountain backdrop rather than against it, using washes, elevation shifts, and native desert vegetation as genuine playing hazards rather than decoration.
Buckeye sits at the far western edge of the Phoenix metro, and that separation from the urban core gives Verrado a distinct small-town character unusual for a new-construction Arizona community. The course reads as an extension of that identity — a bit quieter, a bit more considered than the showier resort tracks closer to Scottsdale.
Desert target golf demands precision off the tee, and Fought's design rewards players who manage angles and shot shape rather than simply overpowering the layout with distance.
