Marana sits at the northwestern edge of the Tucson metro, where the Sonoran Desert spreads out in full, unfiltered force — saguaro-studded bajadas, the Santa Cruz River corridor, and the Tortolita Mountains forming a rugged backdrop that reminds you exactly where you are. The area has grown into a serious golf destination anchored by Dove Mountain, the master-planned resort community that hosts some of the most celebrated desert golf in Arizona.
The North is one of 3 courses at the Ritz-Carlton's Dove Mountain complex, alongside The South and The East, all designed by Jack Nicklaus. The North course occupies the higher, more dramatic terrain of the development, with elevation changes and boulder-strewn desert carries that define the Nicklaus desert-target style — generous landing zones framed by unforgiving native scrub, where course management matters as much as ball-striking. The Dove Mountain property has hosted the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship, once one of the marquee events on the PGA Tour schedule.
Playing here means engaging with classic Sonoran landscape golf: wide desert skies, cactus-lined corridors, and mountain views that reward the patient shotmaker willing to take the conservative route when the Nicklaus design dares you not to.
