Elea Golf Course

Few courses in the Mediterranean can claim a setting quite like this one. Elea Golf Club sits on the southwestern coast of Cyprus, just outside Paphos — a region steeped in ancient mythology as the birthplace of Aphrodite, where Neolithic ruins and Roman mosaics share the landscape with fairways carved through mature carob, olive, and citrus trees. The course was designed by Donald Steel, one of Britain's most respected golf architects, and opened in the early 2000s as part of a broader push to establish Cyprus as a serious golf destination rather than merely a sun-and-sea stopover.

Steel's design works with the natural undulations of the land rather than against them, producing a layout that rewards thoughtful shot selection over raw power. The routing moves through groves of Mediterranean vegetation, and the combination of sandy subsoil and consistent sunshine means firm, fast conditions for much of the year — a playing experience closer to links golf than the lush, soft parkland many visitors expect.

Geroskipou itself sits just east of Paphos town, a quiet coastal village famous for its traditional loukoumades sweets. Winters here are mild and winters rarely intrude on a golf trip; the shoulder seasons of spring and autumn offer particularly pleasant conditions, drawing a mix of European touring golfers and expats who've made this sun-drenched corner of the eastern Mediterranean their home.
