Par 64 courses rarely get credit for being serious golf, but Blue Lake Golf Club earns its place in the Hill Country rotation. The format — loaded with par 3s and short par 4s — puts a premium on precision over power, and in a region where the terrain is naturally uneven and the wind off the lakes can shift without warning, that makes for a more demanding round than the par suggests.
Horseshoe Bay sits on the shores of Lake LBJ in the Texas Hill Country, about an hour northwest of Austin. It's a resort and retirement community built around outdoor life, and golf is central to its identity — the area is home to several well-regarded courses that take advantage of the rugged limestone topography, cedar and live oak cover, and wide Hill Country skies. The setting alone gives a round here more character than you'd find on flatter ground.
A shorter layout like this one rewards course management and shot-making over distance, making it genuinely fun for a wide range of players while still giving better golfers something to think about.
