Few courses in Alberta wear their Scottish ambitions as openly as Links of GlenEagles, a public layout sitting on the western edge of Cochrane with the Rocky Mountain foothills rolling dramatically in every direction. The name nods to Scotland's famous Gleneagles resort, and the design follows through — wide, firm fairways, fescue rough that punishes wayward shots, and a general openness to wind that gives the round a genuinely links-adjacent feel, even if the mountains looming to the west make clear you're nowhere near the North Sea.

Cochrane itself is a small town that has grown steadily as Calgary's western suburbs push outward, and GlenEagles sits within a residential community of the same name. The elevated terrain gives many holes sweeping sightlines, and the short, dry summers of this part of Alberta mean the turf can firm up and run fast, rewarding bump-and-run play over the high aerial game that softer parkland courses demand.

For a community-oriented public course, it punches above its weight in scenery and character. The mountain backdrop gives even routine rounds a sense of occasion that players in flatter parts of Canada would travel far to find.
