Few private clubs in the Mid-Atlantic carry the weight Caves Valley does. Designed by Tom Fazio and opened in 1991, it has steadily built a reputation as one of the finest members' clubs on the East Coast — a place where serious golfers go to play serious golf, without the fanfare of a resort destination. Golf Digest and similar rankings have consistently placed it among the top courses in Maryland and among the top 100 in the United States.
The course occupies rolling, wooded terrain in Baltimore County, where the land folds naturally into fairways framed by mature hardwoods and the occasional exposed rock formation that gives the club its name. Fazio's routing uses that topography with characteristic fluency — generous enough to reward a well-struck shot, demanding enough that sloppy ball-striking finds trouble quickly.
Caves Valley stepped firmly onto the national stage when it hosted the 2021 BMW Championship, the penultimate event of the PGA Tour's FedEx Cup Playoffs, drawing the world's best players and confirming what members have long known: this is a course that plays at the highest level.
