Pittsboro sits in Chatham County, roughly midway between Raleigh and Chapel Hill, and that corridor has quietly become one of the more interesting stretches of golf in the Carolina Piedmont. The region's rolling terrain, mixed pine and hardwood forest, and red clay soil give courses here a distinct character — neither the flat coastal plain to the east nor the dramatic elevation changes of the mountains to the west, but something in between that rewards precise ball-striking and course management over raw power.
Chapel Ridge is a full-length, par-72 layout that draws from a growing residential golf community developed along this part of the Research Triangle's expanding western edge. Courses in this mold tend to offer a quieter, less trafficked round than the big resort destinations nearby, with the feel of a club that knows its membership and takes care of its conditions accordingly.
Chatham County has seen considerable growth in recent years as the Triangle's population spreads outward, and Chapel Ridge reflects that — a course built to serve a community that chose this particular corner of North Carolina for good reason.
