Few European resort complexes have the golfing pedigree of La Manga Club. Developed in the early 1970s on a dramatic stretch of Murcian coastline in southeast Spain, the resort was conceived as a world-class destination and has more than delivered on that promise. The West Course, along with its sister North and South layouts, forms part of a property that has hosted European Tour events, PGA European Tour qualifying school for decades, and countless professional and amateur competitions. The resort's association with Tour School in particular gave it a reputation for pressure golf — generations of professionals played here for their card.
The West Course occupies rugged, sun-baked terrain typical of the Murcia region — dry hills, wild rosemary and pine, and views across the Mar Menor lagoon on clear days. It plays as the more understated of the resort's courses but rewards precise shotmaking, with tight fairways and firm conditions that reflect the arid Mediterranean climate.
La Manga Club sits near Cartagena, one of Spain's oldest cities, with a Carthaginian and Roman heritage that predates the Romans themselves. The resort functions as a self-contained world, which suits visiting golfers perfectly — though Cartagena's old port and archaeological museum are worth the short drive.
