Golf de Saint-Omer

Few corners of France carry as much golf history as the Pas-de-Calais, and Golf de Saint-Omer sits at the heart of it. Designed by John Jacobs and opened in 1990, the course gained serious European Tour credentials early on, hosting the Aa Saint-Omer Open — one of the Challenge Tour's most enduring fixtures — for many years, giving it a tournament pedigree rare among regional French clubs. The layout has long been regarded as one of the better tests in northern France, stretching across the gentle Artois countryside in a way that rewards ball-striking and course management in equal measure.

The setting is quintessentially northern French: open farmland punctuated by mature tree lines, with the flat-to-rolling terrain more reminiscent of the Anglo-Belgian border region than the dramatic landscapes further south. Wind is a constant factor this close to the Channel coast, shifting the challenge from round to round.

Saint-Omer itself is a handsome, historic market town, and the surrounding bocage landscape gives the course a quietly unhurried character. Visitors tend to find a warm, unpretentious club atmosphere — serious about its golf without the formality of a grandes marques destination.
