Few courses in Alberta announce themselves quite so boldly. Northern Bear opened in 2000 just east of Edmonton in Sherwood Park, designed by Jack Nicklaus — a pedigree that immediately placed it among the most anticipated openings in the province's history. Nicklaus brought his signature brand of dramatic, strategic design to the rolling parkland terrain, creating a layout that rewards thoughtful shot-making while punishing carelessness with well-placed bunkers, water hazards, and contoured greens. It consistently ranks among the top public-access courses in Canada.
The Edmonton region's golf season runs from roughly May through October, with the long summer days of the Alberta prairies giving players exceptional light into the evening hours.
