Caxangá Golf Club

Few golf courses in South America carry as much history as Caxangá. Founded in 1934, it stands as one of the oldest clubs in Brazil, and its longevity speaks to the deep, if quietly kept, golf culture that has taken root in Recife over the decades. The club takes its name from the surrounding Caxangá neighborhood in the city's west zone, a leafy area that feels removed from the coastal density of central Recife despite being well within the metropolitan sprawl.

The course plays through flat to gently undulating terrain characteristic of the zona da mata — the coastal forest zone of Pernambuco — where the vegetation is lush and tropical year-round. Heat and humidity are constants, and the warm Northeast Brazilian climate means turf conditions and shot behavior differ noticeably from courses in the country's cooler southern states. Afternoon rounds in the dry season can be punishing without shade.

As a traditional private members' club, Caxangá functions as a proper sporting institution, with tennis and other amenities alongside golf. For visiting players, access typically requires a member introduction, but those who get on will find a course with genuine character rooted in regional history rather than resort-era polish.
