Silvertip

Few mountain courses in Canada command the kind of attention Silvertip does. Designed by Les Furber and opened in 1998, it drapes across a dramatic ridgeline above Canmore in the Canadian Rockies, with the Bow Valley and the jagged peaks of the Three Sisters as a near-constant backdrop. This is not a course that hides its ambition — elevation changes are severe, fairways tumble through dense stands of lodgepole pine, and the views from certain tees are genuinely disorienting in the best possible way.

Silvertip has long ranked among Canada's top public-access courses, and the reputation is earned. Furber's routing forces real decisions at nearly every tee, rewarding precise positioning over brute strength. The back nine in particular climbs and falls with the mountain terrain in ways that a flat-land golfer simply isn't prepared for — club selection becomes almost philosophical.

Canmore sits just outside Banff National Park, a town that has grown considerably since the 1988 Winter Olympics put it on the international map. Silvertip fits the town's character: spectacular, a little demanding, and absolutely worth the effort.
